Once your baby has been born and you are discharged from the hospital or birthing center, you need to know how to properly buckle your baby up in their car seat.
You should already have had your car seat installed in your car, have a full understanding on how to use your car seat and have had it checked by a Certified Child Passenger Safety. If you have not, please call us to make sure your baby is riding safe. |
How to properly buckle-up your newborn by The Car Seat Lady
SPECIAL UPDATE TO THIS VIDEO: To know if the harness straps are tight enough, make sure you cannot "pinch" the harness strap up on the shoulders. If you can, these need to be tighter. Please disregard the comment in the video regarding two-fingers under the harness strap. This has recommendation has changed because the "pinch-test" is shown to be more effective. For a review that includes the "pinch" test, this is demonstrated in this additional video.

Remember the impact of a 30-mile per hour car crash is equivalent to the impact of falling from a three-story building. So not only does your car seat need to be installed correctly, your baby also needs to be properly restrained in a car seat where the baby is within the height and weight requirements of the car seat. The above video by a colleague, The Car Seat Lady, provides an excellent demonstration of how to properly buckle your newborn for their first trip home and beyond. However please talk with a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) to make sure by calling 323-491-6197 .
